Just for fun! This beach wrestling tournament is free but you must register in advance! We will be wrestling directly on the sand so please DO NOT bring your judogi! Just wear whatever you usually wear to the beach. Kids and adults both welcome.
Details:
- Sunday, September 11th
- Alameda Beach near the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Willow Street
- Kids start at 11 am
- Adults start no earlier than 12 noon
- no judogi – beach attire only
The rules are simple:
- 15 foot diameter circle on the sand marked with a heavy rope
- First one to 3 points wins
- 1 point for a push out (force your opponent outside the ring)
- 1 point for a regular takedown
- 3 points for making your opponent land directly on their back (similar to the “ippon” score in judo)
- no pins, no chokes, no joint locks, just takedowns
- in case anyone was confused, yes LEG GRABS are allowed 😆🤼♂️🤙🏻
We won’t be weighing people in and there’s no medals, it’s just for fun. We’ll make good match ups based on size and age. Come on by and enjoy a day in the sun.
