I’ll be honest, as a third degree black belt with 25 years of experience in judo, before this last week I never studied Uki Goshi. I never had it taught to me, and I never consciously practiced it. I’ve had more than a few different judo teachers, been a part of a few different dojos, and I figured, if I got this far and no one ever taught it to me, it must not be that important.
I took some time to do a little research and found out that Uki Goshi is a neat little throw. It was Jigoro Kano’s favorite, and that’s high praise.
The official Kodokan video wasn’t too helpful, but I did find this excellent video by Matt D’Aquino of Australia.
