It’s time for another edition of our in house 510 Judo tournament! We did one back in March and it was a lot of fun.

Here are the details:

  • 510 JUDO TOURNAMENT
  • Sunday, November 20th, 2022
  • 1029 Macarthur Boulevard San Leandro California 94577
  • Doors Open 11:30 a.m.
  • Kids Start 12 Noon
  • Adults Start no sooner than 2 pm
  • Entry Fee $20 CASH ONLY (no checks, no credit cards, no Apple Pay, no Venmo, just bring a twenty dollar bill)
  • Medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
  • The competition area is small – about 12 feet by 12 feet. It’s perfect for kids, and adequate for adults.

RULES

  • Kids 12 and under: 2 minute matches, no choke, no armbars, no double drop knee seoinage
  • Age 13-16: 3 minute matches, chokes okay, no armbars. 
  • Age 17 and up: 4 minute matches, chokes and armbars allowed for all belt levels
  • LEG GRABS WILL BE ALLOWED IN ALL DIVISIONS
    • Morote gari, kibisu gaeshi, te guruma etc will all be scored
    • False attack shido will be given for sloppy leg dives with no chance of success

PROMOTIONAL TOURNAMENT

For 510 Judo students only, you have the chance to jump belt levels based on your performance at the tournament!

  • If you win three matches by ippon (instant win) against opponents who have a higher belt rank AND are heavier than you, you will be strongly considered for immediate promotion. 
  • If there is no one of a higher rank in your division, you can request matches to give you a chance at a jump promotion. 
  • It’s not just whether you win, it’s HOW you win as well. The successful judoka will have:
    • Excellent technique with three or more wins by ippon against opponents with higher rank
    • Good conduct, polite and sportsmanlike behavior before, during and after your matches. 
    • Good presentation: uniform is clean and arranged properly
  • You cannot go backwards in rank – no one will be demoted, even if you lose every match.
