Adult divisions start at 12 noon
- Gi and No Gi Divisions
- Ages 6 and up
- $20 pre registration, $40 on the day of
- Walk up registration is 8-9 AM FOR ALL DIVISIONS! If you arrive after 9 am and haven’t pre-registered, you cannot compete. We want to make pools and run the tournament quickly and efficiently.
- Weights will be pooled. In other words people about the same size will be put together at the organizer’s discretion. There will be no pre-determined weight divisions.
- We have a small competition area inside our dojo. Please watch for safety and try to play near the center of the mat.
- You must weigh yourself in your competition attire (gi or no gi) and report your accurate weight on your registration. Then we will be checking your weight at matside right before you compete! If you WEIGH MORE THAN YOUR REPORTED WEIGHT YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND NO REFUNDS GIVEN! If you have been to jiujitsu tournaments you will be familiar with this process.
- My advice is DO NOT CUT WEIGHT for this small friendly tournament
- Add a pound or two to what you weigh on the scale just to be on the safe side
- Divisions with eight or more competitors will be run modified double elimination.
- Divisions with three to seven competitors will be run round robin
- Divisions with two competitors or less will be best two out of three.
- Masks MAY NOT be worn during competition. They are optional during every other phase – warm up, coaching, etc.
- No jewelry may be worn, including wedding rings.
- Males competing in the gi cannot wear anything underneath their gi tops.
Gi Division
- Current IJF rules will be followed with one exception: leg grabs are allowed. Te guruma, morote gari, kibisu gaeshi etc will be considered valid scoring techniques
- A bad shot for the legs which is done sloppily and with little chance of success will be penalized with a shido for “false attack”
- Ages 6-12: match time 2 minutes. Golden score 1 minute, after that Hantei (decision). No shime waza (choking techniques), no kansetsu waza (arm locks).
- Ages 13-16: match time 3 minutes. Golden score 2 minutes, after that Hantei (decision). Shime waza is allowed, kansetsu waza is not allowed.
- Ages 17 and up: match time 4 minutes. Unlimited golden score. Shime waza is allowed, kansetsu waza is allowed.
- There will be one referee per match.
No Gi Division
- Best match ups will be made according to how many entries are received.
- Match time will be 4 minutes with unlimited golden score (first points win).
- A big throw for ippon will end the match. Ippon criteria: when a competitor is thrown flat on their back with force and control.
- All successful takedowns that do not meet ippon criteria will be given 2 points.
- Other ways to win:
- PINNING: hold a competitor for 20 seconds in a recognized pin or control hold without leg entanglement. For example, holding someone in side control (yoko shiho gatame) for 20 seconds will be awarded ippon and the match is over. If, before 20 seconds have elapsed, the competitor on the bottom sweeps, regains half guard or full guard or otherwise escapes, the pin clock will stop and only the usual 2 points for side control will be given.
- SUBMISSIONS: For adults, chokes and all kinds of armbars are allowed. For ages 16 and under, no submissions will be allowed. Leg locks, wrist locks, small joint manipulation, spine locks, etc will not be allowed in any division.
