One week ago today, Oakland Judo participated in the spring edition of the City College of San Francisco tournament. Thanks to Sensei Mitchell Palacio, Sensei Samir Golubovic, and the whole crew at CCSF for putting on another excellent tournament. We have good referees in northern California, so the quality of refereeing is generally consistent across all the tournaments we attend. But the table workers – the ones keeping score, keeping time, and calling competitors to the mat – stand out as particularly well trained at CCSF. Thank you!
I’d also like to say thanks to all the other clubs and coaches who bring their competitors to the battle. There’s no space to list them all here, and I’d be doing a disservice to leave anyone out, but thanks to all the clubs from around the Bay Area and around the state who came to give their all. Iron sharpens iron, as the saying goes, and we wouldn’t be able to improve ourselves without you.
Thanks also to the parents, grandparents, coaches and others who give up some of their precious weekend time to support their kids have fun and improve their skills.
And to all the competitors, congratulations! You took the risk, had some wins and losses, and gained an immeasurable amount of experience. As far as specifics, there are all things for you to improve on, but we’ll cover that in class. I’m proud of you all.
