The inaugural Bay Area Judo Championships is coming right up on July 16th, 2023. Thank you to all that have registered! We are very close to 250 total registrations.

If you haven’t registered yet, there’s still time to get in for just $60 until July 7th. On July 8th, the price goes up to $75 so don’t wait, register now!

Some reminders:

For COMPETITORS

  • Registration closes at midnight on Friday, July 14th. There is no walk up registration.
  • All weigh ins will be done either at 510 Judo the day before the tournament, or at one of our many satellite weigh in centers around Northern California. We have satellite weigh in sites as far south as Fresno and as far north as Rocklin and Reno, so everyone should be able to weigh in. There is no weigh in on the day of the tournament.
  • Official weigh ins will be done at 510 Judo (1029 Macarthur Boulevard, San Leandro CA 94577) on Saturday, July 15th, 2-7 p.m.
  • Check the website (first page, scroll down) to find the list of satellite weigh in sites.
  • Weigh ins can be done with the gi or without.
  • Try your best to make weight, but if you miss, you can still compete in the next weight class up.
  • For regular judo divisions: you must have a white judo gi
  • Please bring your white and blue belts! A limited number of white and blue belts will be available if you forget yours.
  • For JSG divisions: any color judo or jiujitsu gi is acceptable.
  • For Brazilian jiujitsu players competing in your first judo tournament, please remember that the rules of decorum and behavior in judo are different than in jiujitsu. Excessive celebrating, staredowns, and just generally being a jerk will be considered “against the spirit of judo” and penalized with hansokumake, which means a disqualification.
  • No fee for spectators, please invite your friends and family!

For COACHES

  • Go to smoothcomp on this page. In the search bar, enter the name of your club/academy. This should quickly bring up a list of all your competitors. Please check and make sure that everyone is in the correct division for their age, weight, and belt rank.
  • Last day to make changes is Friday, July 14th.
  • Officials meeting is 8:30 am on the day of the tournament.
  • We will give out wristbands for those sitting in the coach chair.
  • USA Judo coach credentials are not required for this tournament, but please everyone sitting in the coach chair should be an actual coach or sensei, not a random parent from your club.
  • Standard rules for coaches apply: no filming from the coaches chair, please be respectful of everyone including officials.
  • Dress code for coaches: No tank tops, shorts, or flip flops.
  • Please bring some white and blue belts for your players in case they forget to bring their own – we will have a limited number on hand.
