Oakland Judo competed yesterday at the Hanabi 2017 Halloween Classic. This is a great little tournament right in our backyard, hosted by Hanabi Judo.
Isaac and David were stuck in the same division again, just like at the East Bay tournament a few weeks ago. We had the same good result though, first and second place for Oakland Judo. In a separate division, Ronin fought hard in his third tournament appearance but didn’t medal.
On the adult side, Darrel Adams competed in his first tournament and took first place. There was only one other guy for him to fight, so they went best two out of three. Darrel went 2-0, winning his first match by pin and the second with a variety of nice throws.
Congratulations to all the competitors! Win or lose, you always learn something when you compete. Congratulations also to friend and training partner Sensei Ivan of Hanabi Judo, who refereed all day and then threw on his gi for four hard fights in the black belt division, going 3-1. Sensei Minobu and Sensei Chishiro were also there refereeing. Sensei Alan was there at the beginning of the day helping to coach our kids.
Thanks to all the friends and family members who showed up to support, it’s much appreciated! The next tournament is coming right up next Sunday, thrown by Palo Alto Judo Club.
