Congratulations to the Oakland Judo kids for their stripe promotions! There are four stripes in between each belt, and we test 3-4 times each year, so with consistent attendance it’s possible to advance one whole belt per year.
To get their very first stripe judo kids have to demonstrate one throw, one pin, and lots of different kinds of rolling and falling skills. They also have to demonstrate that they can tie their own belt correctly. Each stripe level is designed to be a small step up in skills and responsibility. For the curious, our kids belt system is as follows:
