Tomoe-nagae belongs to a category of throw called sutemi-waza, or sacrifice throw, so called because tori (the thrower) goes to the ground as, or before, uke (the throwee) goes to the ground. My first exposure to this throw was watching Captain Kirk (or his stunt double) do it on the original Star Trek series. Now that I know judo, I watch Kirk do it and shake my head at his bad form.
