O Uchi Gari (Major Inner Reap) is next up on the curriculum! This throw is classified as an ashi waza (leg technique) and in terms of direction it is a backwards throw – meaning uke’s balance is broken to the rear.
Just like any throw, there are a ton of variations and ways to enter. We’ll be covering some of these different approaches in the regular adult classes. For kids classes and adult novice, we will stick with the basic footwork and finishes.
For an in depth look at O Uchi Gari, please log in to your USA Judo account and click “American Judo System” – this will take you to detailed instructionals from master coaches Jimmy Pedro and Travis Stevens. If you are not a member of USA Judo, it’s easy to join.
