A nice uchimata drill for you to try at home (recorded six months ago, before anyone had heard of coronavirus!). Again, this one is most easily done against a wall, but you can also do it out in the middle of a field, or against a tree, or even with your hand on a partner’s shoulder.

Uchimata literally means “inner thigh” and refers to where your sweeping leg goes – against the inner thigh of the uke. Uchimata is sometimes classified as ashiwaza or leg technique, but the way I like to do it, it’s more of a hip technique (koshiwaza). However you do it, it’s a very popular throw in competition.

Enjoy this uchimata drill, and go back and check out yesterday’s post about Ko Uchi Gari, and the O Uchi Gari drill from the day before.
