Do you like listening to podcasts? Sure, we all do. Here are three good podcast interviews with some well known figures in the judo world.

First up is an interview with Sensei Doug Tono, head instructor at Tohkon Judo in Chicago. The Grappler Union podcast hosts an engaging and relaxed two hour conversation with Tono Sensei, who competed in the -132 and -143 pound weight classes in the late seventies and early eighties. He had to sit out the 1980 Olympics due to the American boycott, and was a strong rival to Keith Nakasone.

Next we have an interview with Marti Malloy, World Silver medalist and Olympic Bronze medalist. You’ll hear about Marti’s early years, her competition career, and the transition from competitor to coach. Marti is one of the best American judoka to ever do it, and she spent her college years right here in the Bay Area at San Jose State University.

Finally here is an interview with John Danaher and Travis Stevens. Travis is an Olympic Silver medalist and again, one of the best American judoka ever. John Danaher is a well known jiujitsu coach with many accomplished students. You’ll hear them talk about the history of the juji gatame armbar, the differences and similarities between judo and jiujitsu, and more.

It doesn’t get talked about a lot in either podcast, but Marti and Travis are now working together on Project 2024, a training and coaching program designed to get the next generation of young judoka ready for elite level competition. They travel around the country doing mini training camps, helping young people with not just technical skills, but also physical conditioning, mindset and attitude training, goal setting and more.
