Recently someone asked me about studying judo in Japan. In 2000 or 2001 I traveled to Tokyo with Dr. Feng, and I would love to go back! We visited Dr. Feng’s teacher Wakabayashi Sensei and his Benzene Dojo as well as the Kodokan, which was the very first judo dojo in the world.

I’m aware of two Japan judo study trips available currently – one organized by Sasaki Sensei (based in Florida) and another by Nakano Sensei (based in San Jose). Each trip is about 10-14 days and, in addition to daily training with top judoka, has planned activities such as sightseeing. The cost is a few thousand dollars each in addition to airfare. If you can’t make this year, they will probably do it again next year. Or maybe we can organize our own trip!
