Doug Rogers was the 1964 silver medalist in judo in the heavyweight division. 1964 was the first year judo was included in the Olympics, and Rogers was one of a few Westerners who shocked Japan with their strong showings.
“Judoka” is a 1965 film by Josef Reeve that profiles Rogers and his training routine with the famous Masahiko Kimura. It’s under twenty minutes and worth a look. The National Film Board of Canada recently restored and digitized the film and put it online. Click here to watch it.
